About the award

Introduced in 2013, this award recognises restaurants that deliver excellent standards of restaurant service and hospitality. Teams will deliver technical service skills and food and beverage knowledge of the highest standard.

The Strathearn, Gleneagles, Auchterarder, Perth & Kinross

The scale of the Strathearn restaurant is particularly impressive. While well established, it has in recent years undergone a complete refurbishment and relaunch. This has really given it a new lease of life, while retaining the classic grandeur of the railway years. For an operation that can produce 200 cover services, the quality here is unrivalled in the UK, certainly outside of London.

The full brigade service has a structure and discipline of the sort that is very rare – a superb training ground for young professionals. The layup and preparation are detailed and precise, and a huge amount of classical guéridon work is completed in every service.

Menus are necessarily quite involved and demanding of the team, led by Liam Simpson. There's a wine service to match from a dedicated sommelier team led by head sommelier, Paul Stibbles.
