Hospitality Awards 2024

AA Restaurant of the Year Scotland

About the award

Each year the AA independently inspects hundreds of restaurants across the British Isles. Introduced in 2000, this award recognises restaurants that provide cuisine of a truly excellent standard, as well as demonstrating innovation and ambience and providing a high standard of hospitality.

Loch Bay Restaurant

Michael Smith’s solo venture is this small, remote restaurant, that has people willing to travel miles to reach it. An intrepid journey along single track roads leads to a charming white washed building in a small village with the dramatic Skye scenery all around.

Just around the corner you'll find the pier where much of the fish and shellfish is landed for the menu – seasonality and locality at its finest. The dining room is very small and intimate, with rich varnished wood tables, wool covered chairs and banquettes, white painted walls, and a red door.

Chef Michael Smith’s finely-honed skills, attention to detail and commitment to top-class Scottish ingredients deliver dishes of deceptive simplicity and integrity, showcased in the ‘Skye Fruits de Mer’ – a set menu of local shellfish and fish.
