Hospitality Awards 2024

AA Restaurant of the Year Wales

About the award
Each year the AA independently inspects hundreds of restaurants across the British Isles. Introduced in 2000, this award recognises restaurants that provide cuisine of a truly excellent standard, as well as demonstrating innovation and ambience and providing a high standard of hospitality.

Thomas by Tom Simmons, Cardiff

Located in a quiet suburb of Cardiff, Thomas by Tom Simmons offers French and British influenced cuisine using the best local ingredients. Realising a life time ambition to open a restaurant in his home country of Wales, this class act has been a welcomed addition to the Cardiff dining scene.

Influenced by British and French cuisine and inspired by a life lived in Pembrokeshire, Thomas has a love and respect for homegrown Welsh ingredients and this is the inspiration behind the restaurant.

The decor consists of dark greens, cream and natural wood tones. The wooden parquet floor, unclothed tables and fine tableware add bags of character. The bar has Art Déco undertones, while service is polished, friendly and attentive throughout. Tom also owns 'Ground Bakery' just up the street, which produces excellent bread.
