Housed in a former bank on Church Road, etch. is the flagship restaurant of MasterChef: The Professionals winner Steven Edwards. A contemporary design with a monochrome colour scheme of pale wood floor, black tables and white walls, an open kitchen allows diners to watch the chefs create and serve each dish. The restaurant’s philosophy is to celebrate seasonal local and British produce through evolving tasting menus. A starter of Buddles Farm cauliflower soup, tarragon oil and Romney Marsh lamb tartare could be followed by poached cod, ratte potato, parsley and chicken sauce. Finish with Granny Smith apple, parfait and marigold.

Wine judging observations:

The judges noted that this is a beautifully laid-out wine list, full of personality and presented in a way that feels both engaging and accessible. It features a strong collection of highly regarded producers, alongside a number of lesser-known wines and exciting discoveries for more adventurous drinkers. Overall, it is a real class act, combining quality, character and thoughtful curation. The impressive range of English sparkling wines is a particular highlight, especially given that many are produced locally, creating a strong and welcome sense of place.
